According to a source, Halder complained of chest trouble at his Salt Lake home earlier that morning and was admitted to a private hospital. In 2003, Halder helmed Vidya Balan in his debut Bengali film, “Bhalo Theko.” In 2019, he also directed Rakhi Gulzar in the movie “Nirvana.” Goutam Halder, a member of the theatre company “Nandikar,” has directed over 80 stage productions.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences for Goutam Halder’s passing shortly after learning of it on X, writing, “I’m saddened by the passing of renowned theatre and film director Goutam Halder. The world of culture has lost a tremendous deal with his passing. She commented, “Sending condolences to his loved ones and admirers.” As part of Halder’s Rakta Karabi, actor Chaiti Ghosal, posted on social media with the message, “Famous theatre personality and film director Gautam Halder is no more. I sincerely admire you. He served as my mentor in the theatre industry.”With the remark, “I am so grateful to have done innumerable RAKTOKOROBI SHOWS AS NANDINI under your direction,” she also posted a few photos to Instagram.

In 1999, Goutam Halder produced a documentary titled “Strings for Freedom” on Sarod master Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Halder has directed plays and films in addition to acting in Bengali films from directors such as Anjan Dutta, Raja Sen, and Nitish Roy. According to Anandabazaar, Vidya Balan travelled to Kolkata on Friday night to give the filmmaker her final respects. During an exchange with the site, she expressed her grief at the untimely death.
